Working principle of Low Temperature Spray Drying

The working principle of a freeze spray dryer mainly includes three key steps: pre-freezing, spray atomization, and low-temperature drying.

Pre-freezing stage: The raw material liquid is first sent to the pre-cooling system. And quickly cooled to below freezing at an extremely low temperature to form tiny ice crystals or ice particles. This process preserves active ingredients and nutrients, while also reducing volume change and improving drying efficiency.

‌Spray atomization stage: High-pressure nozzles spray pre-frozen ice crystals or particles into the drying chamber. Instantly breaking them down into tiny ice mist particles. These particles are uniform in size and have a greatly increased surface area. Providing good conditions for the subsequent drying process. In the atomization process, precisely controlled nozzle design and airflow speed are key, ensuring uniform dispersion of droplets and efficient heat transfer.

‌Low-temperature drying stage: In the drying chamber, these tiny ice mist particles come into contact with hot air or inert gas, and quickly sublimate into water vapor through heat exchange, thereby achieving drying. To preserve the heat-sensitive components in the material, we maintain a low-temperature environment throughout the process. Meanwhile, our precise exhaust system continuously discharges exhaust gas containing water vapor, steadily reducing the humidity in the drying room until it reaches the desired level of dryness.

The application fields of the freeze spray dryer include food, medicine, biological products and other fields. Due to its high efficiency, gentleness and retention of nutrients, the freeze spray dryer has demonstrated its irreplaceable technical advantages in these fields.

Application of spray drying

Operation steps of Low Temperature Spray Drying

1. Careful preparation is required before starting to check whether all parts of the equipment are intact.
2. Turn on the refrigeration system to make the drying room reach the preset low-temperature environment.
3. Start the feed pump and pump the pre-treated liquid material to the nozzle. The material is atomized into tiny droplets by high-pressure gas at the nozzle and enters the low-temperature drying chamber.
4. In the drying chamber, tiny droplets rapidly freeze into ice crystals, then sublimate into water vapor under hot air, and are collected as solid particles on the collector.
5. After drying, shut off the feed pump and refrigeration system, and allow the equipment to naturally warm up to room temperature. Finally, open the collector and take out the dried product for subsequent processing.
